Development of my Eye

I am an aspiring photographer, with an emphasis on aspiring. I have always found photography, difficult to progress in. In an art form where criteria can be so subjective, I think that freedom can make me anxious. Knowing this, when I started my still image project I chose to focus my efforts on Portrait photography. I started working with Roam Boulder the student-led fashion magazine on campus. Using the different shoots for practice I began to see some growth. There is some pointed improvement in the framing of my subjects, along with framing to better capture the models and the clothes they wear. Part of this was the mentorship of my fellow photographers. Part of it was just me getting more experience. I think a lot of it was just confidence. Shoots are very meticulously controlled, models are often experienced, light sources are readily adjustable, and there is nothing stopping you from retaking a shot. Oftentimes it can be easier to understand the components that go into a good picture. Knowing that I could take good pictures is what I needed to start taking them.
